OUR CAFE AND PASTRY SHOP

BEGININGS

Ekrem, a young man from Macedonia, departed from his hometown in pursuit of mastering the art of pastry making under the guidance of the Hungarian pastry maestro, Franjo. His journey eventually brought him to the Slovenian coast, where, in 1952, he and his friends opened the first pasty shop. Additionally, Ekrem acquired an ice cream trolley and tirelessly trekked up to 40 kilometers a day on foot while selling ice cream.

TRADITION

Merely two years after the establishment of the pastry shop, Ekrem initiated a pastry workshop adjacent to the city market. The market’s relocation in 1962 prompted the pastry shop’s move. Soon, the new pastry shop opened its doors and subsequently thrived over the years. The pastry shop is currently overseen by the third generation, having been passed down from Ekrem to his son, Tadžedin, and his grandson who continues the family tradition. Today, you can still taste some traditional sweets with a modern touch.

Izolanka, a cake born in June 2011, is a truly special cake that captures the essence of Izola. It was born by the sea, in the Ekrem cake shop. It blends the harmonious flavors of soft sponge, vanilla cream, chocolate, nuts, and a touch of orange, mirroring the interplay of wind, sun, and sea. Izolanka cake encompasses the best of Izola and luring us into tasting it and coming back for more.

Yet, there’s a second tale woven into Izolanka – the story of its name. It was the children of Izola who christened it, seeking something both sweet and neet, something juicy and crazy. Their choice was impeccable – Izolanka embodies all these qualities, ready to delight palates every day.
